Artist Lee Inam, who has opened new horizons with his unique interpretations of existing art forms, breaks down the exclusive barriers of contemporary art and guides the audience into a new space and a new realm of dialogue through his solo exhibition featuring works based on classical Eastern and Western literature.
This solo exhibition, titled "Jo-u (遭遇) : Encounter," is the first solo exhibition held by NVIRGALLERY in collaboration with Lee Inam Studio, running for about two months from February 17 to April 16.
As the title "Jo-u (遭遇) : Encounter" suggests, the exhibition approaches the fusion of digital technology and classical Eastern and Western works as a meeting of time and space that penetrates each other. The encounter between classics and digital technology transcends time and space, allowing communication and exchange of contemporary messages in a new space created by the artist. By borrowing masterpieces that sincerely reveal natural phenomena and the feelings of life, the artist breathes life and meaning into them, creating new life within the dazzling digital images.
Lee Inam’s encounter is a meeting and communion among the artist, the artwork, and the audience. It signifies the possibility of a closer relationship between the artist and the audience in a virtual space, emphasizing mutual communication rather than one-way transmission.
In this exhibition, Lee Inam will showcase not only works that combine traditional landscape painting and ink wash painting with digital elements but also the series "Where Do Flowers Come From I, II," where bombs, flowers, and popcorn mix over the women in the screen, continuously blooming and withering.
Lee Inam, the exhibiting artist, is a globally recognized media art master, often called the artist of the "5-minute aesthetics" because audiences reportedly do not leave his works for more than five minutes. By drawing existing classical works into digital screens and breathing life into them, he continuously offers 21st-century audiences opportunities to approach masterpieces that were once consumed as noble images over time.
Especially through his vigorous annual activities, he has been a frequent invitee to exhibitions both domestically and internationally, participating in over 80 solo exhibitions and 800 group exhibitions in countries such as Malaysia, China, the United States, Russia, Germany, and Belgium. His works are held in major institutions worldwide, including the National Museum of Korea, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the Thomas Foundation in the U.S., the Asia Art Museum, Yale University, and the ZebraStrat Museum in Belgium.
Meanwhile, NVIRGALLERY, where artist Lee Inam’s solo exhibition "Jo-u (遭遇) : Encounter" is held, is a new-concept gallery introduced by NvirWorld that incorporates blockchain NFT technology. It has established an exhibition artist selection system called Nvir’s Pick, presenting both physical artworks and NFTs (non-fungible tokens, virtual certificates of authenticity) together at each exhibition. The gallery plans to offer various services, including exhibitions linked with physical works and NFTs, as well as Web3-based auctions.
