[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-jun, mayor of Suwon City, donated 'Hometown Love Donation' to areas at risk of extinction and sister cities.
On the 14th, Mayor Lee used the 'Hometown Love e-um System' in his office to donate to six local governments: Goesan-gun in Chungbuk, Bonghwa-gun in Gyeongbuk, Cheorwon-gun in Gangwon, Geochang-gun in Gyeongnam, Jeju Island, and Hwaseong City.
Goesan-gun is the preparatory local government for the 'Market, County Governor, and District Mayor Council for Population Declining Areas' currently being established. Cheorwon-gun and Geochang-gun are local governments participating in the council, and Bonghwa-gun is also a population decline area.
Kang Byung-sam, mayor of Jeju City, a sister city, and Jung Myung-geun, mayor of neighboring Hwaseong City, recently donated Hometown Love Donations to Suwon City.
Last month on the 11th, Mayor Lee donated Hometown Love Donations online to five local governments including Yeoncheon-gun in Gyeonggi Province, Jeollabuk-do, Taean-gun in Chungnam, Haenam-gun in Jeonnam, which are areas at risk of extinction, and Pohang City in Gyeongbuk, a sister city.
The mayor plans to continuously pay attention to areas at risk of extinction and donate Hometown Love Donations.
The mayor said, "The purpose of introducing the Hometown Love Donation system is to support local governments at risk of extinction," and urged, "I hope citizens donate generously to these at-risk local governments."
The Hometown Love Donation system, implemented from January 1 this year, allows people living outside their hometown or other local governments to donate, providing donors with a certain percentage of tax credit, and the recipient local governments can offer thank-you gifts within 30% of the donation amount.
This system is not limited to donations only to one's hometown. Citizens of all local governments except Suwon City can donate to Suwon, and Suwon citizens can donate to all basic and metropolitan local governments nationwide except Suwon City and Gyeonggi Province. Donations can be applied for online (Hometown Love e-um System) or at NH Nonghyup Bank reception counters.
Donations of 100,000 KRW or less receive a 100% tax credit, and amounts exceeding 100,000 KRW receive a 16.5% tax credit. For example, donating 100,000 KRW provides a tax credit of 100,000 KRW and thank-you gifts worth 30,000 KRW, totaling benefits of 130,000 KRW.
