[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] Kim Mo (35), the nephew of former Star Mobility chairman Kim Bong-hyun, who was sentenced to 8 months in prison in the first trial for aiding the escape of Kim, the main culprit of the Lime scandal, has appealed.

According to the legal community on the 11th, Kim submitted an appeal to the Seoul Southern District Court Criminal Division 11 (Presiding Judge Park Young-soo) on the previous day (the 10th).

Kim was arrested and prosecuted last November for driving the vehicle carrying former chairman Kim to the southern end of Paldang Bridge in Hanam-si, Gyeonggi Province, and for aiding in the destruction of Kim's electronic ankle bracelet. The prosecution applied the charge of damage to public property instead of aiding a criminal escape because, under current law, relatives are not punishable for aiding a criminal escape.

Earlier, on the 7th, the first trial sentenced Kim to 8 months in prison. The court explained the reason for sentencing, stating, "Kim interfered with the real-time location device function during Kim's escape and caused confusion by giving false statements about the escape route to the investigative authorities," but also "considered the fact that he admitted his wrongdoing and cooperated during the investigation, contributing to the capture."
