[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Pohang City is promoting a project to support the installation costs of air pollution prevention facilities for small-scale businesses in order to alleviate the burden on companies due to the comprehensive fine dust management measures and strengthened emission standards, and to enhance the effect of fine dust reduction.

Pohang City Supports Installation Costs for Air Pollution Prevention Facilities at Small-Scale Businesses Support for Installation Costs of Air Pollution Prevention Facilities in Small-Scale Businesses.

This project plans to support 90% of the installation costs of prevention facilities (10% self-payment) by investing a total of 1.8 billion KRW this year, aiming to assist small-scale micro-businesses facing economic difficulties.

Eligible businesses are small and medium enterprises under the Framework Act on Small and Medium Enterprises with air emission facilities classified as types 4 and 5, but depending on budget conditions, types 1 to 3 facilities may also be supported. Facilities installed within the last 3 years and those that have received budget support within the last 5 years are excluded from support.

Priority support will be given to businesses emitting fine dust causative substances (dust, sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides), businesses emitting specific air hazardous substances, those operating outdated prevention facilities over 10 years old, and businesses causing complaints located near residential areas.

Businesses wishing to participate in the project can apply in person by submitting the application form and prevention facility installation plan along with required documents by April 28. Detailed information can be found in the announcement section on the Pohang City website.

Additionally, as the installation of Internet of Things (IoT) measuring devices is mandatory for emission and prevention facilities of air emission facilities types 4 and 5 under the Air Environment Conservation Act, installation support will be provided concurrently with the small-scale business air pollution prevention facility installation project.

The IoT measuring devices are internet-based devices that allow real-time monitoring and management of operational information of emission and prevention facilities, and must be installed mandatorily by June 30, 2025.

Shin Jeong-hyeok, head of the Environmental Policy Division of the city, said, “By supporting small and medium enterprises struggling with environmental facility investments to ease their economic burden and simultaneously encouraging the installation of IoT devices, we expect to greatly contribute to creating a pleasant air environment.”
