[Asia Economy Reporter Noh Kyung-jo] HJ Heavy Industries' construction division recently announced on the 7th that it has secured a civil engineering contract worth 180.6 billion KRW for residential, research, and support facilities at the Korea Energy Engineering University campus. In this project commissioned by the Public Procurement Service, HJ Heavy Industries was selected through a comprehensive evaluation bidding system, holding a 90% stake. HJ Heavy Industries will carry out the second phase of construction, which includes dormitories, daycare centers, and cafeterias, as well as the third phase, which involves research buildings, libraries, and student union buildings. The total gross floor area is approximately 109,489㎡. The buildings will primarily consist of eco-friendly certified structures such as zero-energy buildings and those with the highest green building certifications.

The construction period is 34 months, with groundbreaking scheduled for the end of this month and completion expected by the end of 2025. Upon completion, additional facilities such as a convention center, gymnasium, and faculty housing will be commissioned and constructed by 2030.

Korea Energy Engineering University is a specialized energy research-focused university supported by Korea Electric Power Corporation as part of the 'KEPCO University Establishment Plan' (tentative name) included in the government's 5-year national agenda in 2017. It is located in Bitgaram Innovation City, Naju, Jeollanam-do, and admitted its first freshmen in March last year.

An HJ Heavy Industries official stated, "Based on our 55 years of construction expertise and differentiated technological capabilities, we will make every effort in construction to equip the university with facility infrastructure that can help it leap forward as a world-class research and educational institution."
