[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do is taking a groundbreaking step to reduce water bills in order to spread water-saving practices.
The county will reduce water bills by 20% for households whose water usage this year has decreased by more than 20% compared to the same month last year.
For example, if a household used 20 tons of tap water in January last year and used 16 tons in January this year, the original bill of 10,900 KRW will be reduced by 20% to 8,720 KRW.
However, households with no water usage this month or those affected by moving settlements, leaks, or water supply suspension will be excluded from the support.
To save water, it is good to collect laundry and wash it at once, and put water-filled PET bottles in the toilet tank. Use a cup for brushing teeth and a basin for washing dishes instead of running water, and turn off the faucet while soaping. Also, lower the water pressure on the water meter.
A representative from the Jangseong-gun Clean Water Management Office said on the 5th, “We expect that the implementation of the discount system will lead to the activation of water-saving practices and help overcome drought.”
As of the end of January, the reservoir levels of Jangseong-gun’s water sources are 32.2% at Pyeongnim Dam and 50.4% at Yutangje. This level can supply water for about 120 to 160 days, so water-saving efforts across the community are required until before the summer rainy season.
