Signing of a Business Agreement to Promote Local Rice Consumption
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, signed a "Business Agreement to Promote Local Rice Consumption" with the Jinju Branch of the Gyeongnam Chapter of the Korea Foodservice Industry Association in the City Hall Entrepreneurs' Room.
The signing ceremony held on the 26th was attended by nine officials from both sides, including Mayor Jo Gyu-il and Kang Myung-gu, head of the Jinju Branch of the Gyeongnam Chapter of the Korea Foodservice Industry Association.
Through this business agreement, local foodservice businesses will jointly purchase Jinju region rice, promote the excellence of rice produced locally, and mutually cooperate to boost consumption.
According to Statistics Korea data, the annual per capita rice consumption decreased from 69.8 kg in 2012 to 56.9 kg in 2021. The city has continuously promoted dietary education such as "various education on the use of domestic rice" and "specialized education on the use of processed domestic rice products" targeting citizens to improve awareness and encourage consumption of domestic rice.
Mayor Jo said, "We will do our best to create an atmosphere for promoting rice consumption and diversify sales channels," adding, "We thank the Jinju Branch of the Gyeongnam Chapter of the Korea Foodservice Industry Association for actively cooperating to promote local rice consumption."
Branch head Kang stated, "We expect to jointly purchase about 20 tons of Jinju region rice this year," and added, "We will continue to strive to use local agricultural products."
The Jinju Branch of the Gyeongnam Chapter of the Korea Foodservice Industry Association consists of 3,843 member businesses and is promoting a joint purchase project of domestic ingredients as part of the "Project to Expand Consumption of Excellent Food Ingredients."
