90-Minute Conversation with a New Employee
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seoyoon] Kim Joon, Vice Chairman of SK Innovation, urged the new employees who joined in January this year to “become the driving force at the core of a future world that is completely different from the present.”
On the 17th, Kim appeared in the ‘Conversation with New Employees’ session during the SK Innovation new employee training course held at the SK Seorin Building in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and spent 90 minutes talking with new employees of SK Innovation affiliates.
Kim cited the culture among members where each voice is heard as one of SK Innovation’s strengths.
When a new employee from SK Earth On said, “There will probably be many discussions during work, but it seems difficult to present my opinions or assert myself in front of seniors,” Kim replied, “SK Innovation has a ‘culture of speaking up.’”
He said, “This is a culture where members freely share diverse opinions and find solutions in an atmosphere of mutual respect and consideration,” adding, “I hope new employees confidently organize and express their thoughts in all matters.”

Kim explained SK Innovation’s core strategy, ‘Carbon to Green,’ saying, “Our role remains to provide the driving force (energy) that moves the world, but we are shifting from a carbon-based to a green-based foundation.” He also added future business plans ranging from the electrification and recycling of energy to small modular reactors (SMR), hydrogen, and ammonia.
He said, “SK Innovation’s competitiveness lies in its sincerity toward net zero, overcoming the practical difficulties of achieving net zero, and the speed with which it leads the industry proactively.”
He continued, “All seniors at SK Innovation, including myself, will strengthen the company’s foundation and sow seeds, so I hope you nurture those seeds well and take pride in saying ‘I made SK Innovation’s 100th anniversary in 2062.’”
