30s Woman Hit by Drunk Driver and Dragged 1.2km by Taxi Dies

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] A woman in her 30s died after being hit by a drunk-driving truck and dragged about 1 km in a taxi.


On the 18th, the Songpa Police Station in Seoul announced that they have arrested a man in his 50s, identified as A, the truck driver, on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving) and hit-and-run causing death under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes. At the time of the accident, A's blood alcohol concentration was reported to be at the license suspension level.


Subsequently, B, a taxi driver in his 50s who caused the accident, was also booked on charges of hit-and-run causing death under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes and is under investigation. The police have also applied for an arrest warrant for B.


A is accused of driving a cargo truck on the third lane of the road in Munjeong-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, around 6 a.m. on the 14th, hitting a woman in her 30s who was crossing the crosswalk and fleeing the scene. It was reported that the victim was then caught by B's taxi and dragged for 1.2 km.


The police stated, "We analyzed CCTV footage and arrested A and B at their homes located in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province," adding, "We plan to ascertain the exact circumstances of the incident."
