On the 16th, the province announced that it signed an 'Investment Agreement for the Namhae Lighting Island Development Project' with Namhae County and Namseon Development.
Gyeongsangnam-do signed an investment agreement for the 'Namhae Lighting Island Development Project' with Namhae-gun and Namseon Development.
Attending the agreement ceremony held at the provincial government meeting room were Governor Park Wan-su, Namhae County Mayor Jang Chung-nam, Namseon Development CEO Jeong Yoon-seong, Namhae County Council Chairman Lim Tae-sik, Moment Factory Development Director Gong Seong-sik, representatives from the Quebec Government Office in Korea including the head and executive vice head, and other officials.
According to the province, this is the first private investment agreement in the tourism industry sector this year, laying the groundwork for revitalizing the South Coast tourism industry and establishing the world's first indoor and outdoor complex Lumina facility called 'Lighting Island.'
Lumina, derived from Spanish meaning 'luminous celestial body,' refers to light video media created with splendid lighting and cutting-edge digital technology.
Namseon Development plans to develop a stay-type tourism facility consisting of an indoor Lumina facility open 365 days a year, outdoor Lumina mainly open at night, condominiums, and observatories through a technical partnership with Moment Factory, the top digital media art company headquartered in Canada.
They have decided on an investment of 102.3 billion KRW on a 100,000㎡ site and plan to employ 1,100 new personnel.
A provincial official stated, "With this investment, a new type of stay-type tourism facility will be created where visitors can explore a fantastic world of light and video combining Namhae County's natural scenery and cutting-edge media art. It will not only serve as a cornerstone to make the South Coast a new growth engine but is also expected to greatly help attract overseas tourists."
Governor Park said, "Through this investment agreement, Namhae will lead South Coast tourism and become a tourist destination loved by our people. We will do our best to make Gyeongnam a place where tourists can visit year-round by making South Coast tourism development a growth engine for Korea."
