[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] As Na Kyung-won, Vice Chair of the Low Birthrate and Aging Society Committee, has expressed her intention to resign and is solidifying her candidacy for the People Power Party leadership, former Supreme Council member Kim Jae-won, who is challenging for the Supreme Council position, forecasted a low possibility of her running, describing the situation as "very difficult."
On the 11th, former Supreme Council member Kim said on CBS's 'Park Jae-hong's One-on-One Match,' "This is not a moment of stars but a very tough situation. A moment of stars is when people flock like clouds as soon as you open your eyes and praise you."
Earlier, former Youth Supreme Council member Kim Yong-tae evaluated that considering Vice Chair Na's support rate within the party, now is a 'moment of stars.' The term 'moment of stars' is often used by Kim Jong-in, former emergency committee chairman of the People Power Party and a representative 'kingmaker' in politics, to refer to a 'decisive moment for a politician.'
However, former Supreme Council member Kim assessed that Vice Chair Na is not in a moment of stars but rather 'in crisis.' He analyzed that discord with the Presidential Office during the process of gauging her candidacy would decisively affect the party's sentiment.
He said, "From the party members' perspective, there would be a strong aversion to a party leader emerging who does not align with the president's intentions," adding, "It will be a very arduous process to convincingly communicate what kind of mindset she will have in the party leadership race, such as 'I will still dedicate myself,' and to firmly establish that."
There is also an assessment that Vice Chair Na could become a 'second Yoo Seung-min' due to discord with the Presidential Office. However, former Supreme Council member Kim said, "Vice Chair Na is unlikely to go as far as former lawmaker Yoo in leading an opposition movement," and "She cannot be like former leader Lee Jun-seok, who is currently acting as a political commentator."
This is because it is completely opposite to the 'pro-Yoon' line she has taken so far. Former Supreme Council member Kim said, "Vice Chair Na has been politically active from the standpoint of sharing the will with President Yoon Seok-youl and dedicating herself to the success of the Yoon administration," adding, "She needs to clearly organize her stance, but there will be some difficulties."
