[Asia Economy Reporter Byeon Seon-jin] The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced on the 6th at midnight that 56,954 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, bringing the total to 29,422,260 cases.
The number of new cases decreased by 7,152 compared to the previous day (64,106 cases). It also dropped by 8,253 compared to a week ago on the 30th of last month (65,207 cases). The recent trend shows a gradual decline in the number of confirmed cases.
The number of imported cases increased by 64 from 194 cases on the previous day (5th). The rise in imported cases is attributed to the mandatory post-arrival PCR testing for travelers from China, which has been enforced since the 2nd. The number of imported cases on this day is the highest since October 2nd of last year (241 cases).
The number of critically ill patients currently hospitalized is 548, which is 23 fewer than the previous day.
There were 75 new COVID-19 related deaths reported. The cumulative death toll stands at 32,496, with a fatality rate of 0.11%.
As of midnight on this day, the additional winter vaccination rate is 31.4% for those aged 60 and over, and 55.1% for residents in infection-vulnerable facilities.
