Kim Sang-beom, President of Seoul Metro, Abruptly Resigns

President Kim Submits Resignation Letter to Seoul City on the 30th

Kim Sang-beom, President of Seoul Metro, Abruptly Resigns Sangbeom Kim, President of Seoul Metro

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Kim Sang-beom, President of Seoul Transportation Corporation, abruptly resigned on the 31st.

It is known that Kim did not come to work from the 31st after submitting his resignation letter to the Seoul Metropolitan Government the day before.

After graduating from Konkuk University with a degree in Public Administration and passing the civil service exam, Kim, who previously served as Director of the Seoul Transportation Bureau, Chief Secretary, Head of Urban Transportation Headquarters, Director of the Planning Office, and First Deputy Mayor of Administration, was appointed president of Seoul Transportation Corporation on April 1, 2020, serving for 2 years and 9 months.

In particular, Kim was working as a research professor at the University of Seoul when he was recommended by the late Mayor Park Won-soon to become president of the Transportation Corporation and subsequently took office.

However, during his tenure, he faced difficult times as incidents such as the death of a disabled person in the restroom at Sangdong Station in Bucheon, the stalking-related death of a corporation employee, and the Itaewon tragedy occurred consecutively.

Following Kim’s resignation, Seoul Transportation Corporation formed a presidential recommendation committee and began actively searching for a successor.

Baek Ho, Director of Urban Transportation at Seoul Metropolitan Government, is known to be the most likely successor as he will become a research professor at the University of Seoul starting January 1, and attention is focused on the results of the presidential recommendation committee’s deliberations.
