[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Lee Jun-hyung] Avian influenza (AI) antigen was detected at a duck farm in Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do. The government has issued a temporary movement restriction order until the 19th.

The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza announced on the 18th that AI H5 antigen was detected at a breeding duck farm located in Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do. The farm raises about 16,000 ducks, and as the number of dead ducks increased, the farm owner reported it to the quarantine authorities on the same day. Subsequently, the Jeollanam-do Animal Hygiene Laboratory inspected the farm and detected the AI H5 antigen.

Immediately after confirming the AI antigen, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters deployed an initial response team to the site. The headquarters is currently implementing quarantine measures such as access control, culling, and epidemiological investigation at the farm. The quarantine authorities are also conducting additional detailed inspections of the farm. It is expected to take an additional 1 to 3 days to determine whether it is highly pathogenic.

The headquarters has issued a temporary movement restriction order targeting all poultry farms of Sajowon, the AI-affected affiliate, as well as related livestock facilities and livestock vehicles including feed factories. The temporary movement restriction period is from 9 p.m. today until 9 p.m. tomorrow (the 19th). During this period, the headquarters will form inspection teams from central and local governments to check compliance with the order at the farms as well as related facilities and vehicles.

A representative of the headquarters said, "Farmers should strictly follow quarantine rules such as changing boots and hand sanitizing when entering livestock barns," and added, "If poultry farmers observe suspected symptoms of highly pathogenic AI such as increased mortality or decreased egg production in their poultry, they should immediately report to the quarantine authorities."
