The "Ulsan Global Manufacturing Innovation Forum 2022" is currently underway at the Ulsan Exhibition & Convention Center (UECO).
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] A forum exploring the direction of manufacturing innovation in the era of digital transformation was held in Ulsan.
UNIST and Ulsan City hosted the 'Ulsan Global Manufacturing Innovation Forum 2022' at the Ulsan Exhibition & Convention Center (UECO) from 2 PM to 6 PM on the 25th.
UNIST and Ulsan City plan to discuss and develop the direction of manufacturing innovation suitable for the digital transformation era through the forum, aiming to enhance the competitiveness of key industries such as automobiles, shipbuilding, and petrochemicals, and to establish a foundation for creating new industries.
Im Seong-hoon, director of the UNIST Industrial Intelligence Research Institute, which organized the forum, said, “The UNIST AI Graduate School and AI Innovation Park are leading the digital transformation of manufacturing companies centered on artificial intelligence, involving companies related to the region’s key and new industries. We plan to develop this forum into an event that discusses specific manufacturing innovation tasks and cooperates with global regions.”
This year’s keynote speeches were delivered by Joo Young-seop, Special Professor at Seoul National University Graduate School of Engineering (former Commissioner of the Small and Medium Business Administration), Dominic Gorecky, Head of the Swiss Smart Factory & Health Tech, and Kim Nam-hoon, Director of the UNIST 3D Printing Convergence Technology Center.
Panel discussions included Lee Kyung-woo, Head of Innovation Growth Research at Ulsan Research Institute; Jung Cheol-woo, Head of Regional Industry Promotion at Ulsan Technopark; and Joo Sung-ho, CEO of MP Works, who conducted expert presentations and in-depth discussions on the theme of ‘Ulsan’s Manufacturing Innovation Strategy and 3D Printing.’
Ahn Hyo-dae, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of Ulsan City, said, “We aim for Ulsan’s key manufacturing industries to regain competitiveness through digital transformation and 3D printing, restoring its honor as an industrial capital. We will actively promote digital innovation in manufacturing to respond to future changes such as digital transformation and carbon neutrality.”
Lee Jae-yong, Vice President of UNIST, said in his congratulatory remarks, “Ulsan’s future depends on business innovation based on data and artificial intelligence. UNIST will accelerate the digital transformation of manufacturing as a Southeast regional AI innovation hub and lead support for new changes in Ulsan’s manufacturing industry.”
The forum was hosted by Ulsan City and organized by UNIST, with about 100 participants including companies and institutions related to manufacturing innovation and 3D printing in the Ulsan region, as well as members of the Ulsan U-Forum.
