[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, will hold a cultural and arts festival to support the cultural and artistic creative activities of people with disabilities in the district and to nurture disabled cultural artists.
According to Nam-gu on the 18th, the 3rd Nam-gu Disabled Cultural and Arts Festival will be grandly held on the 23rd from 2 p.m. at the Nam-gu Comprehensive Cultural and Arts Center, with about 200 attendees including residents with disabilities living in the district, officials from disability facilities and organizations, and local residents.
The Disabled Cultural and Arts Festival will be divided into two parts and last about 90 minutes. The festival will begin with the screening of a 5-minute video showcasing the activities of people with disabilities in the district throughout this year, marking the official opening.
Mr. Kim Min-ho, who is active in the Disabled Literary Creation Group, will present a poetry collection compiled from the works of the creative group members to District Mayor Kim Byung-nae. In response, Mayor Kim Byung-nae will recite two poems together with Ms. Lee Bit-na-ni, a person with a disability.
The second part of the event will be filled with cultural performances.
The ensemble team and choir team belonging to the Nam-gu Disabled Cultural Arts Group will each take the stage to perform. Additionally, people from disability welfare facilities such as Siloam People, Sohwa Angel’s House, Gwangju City Welfare Center for the Visually Impaired, and Johan Village will present sign language chorus and broadcast dance, harmonica, poetry recitation, and singing.
Along with this, The One Band, affiliated with the Gwangju City Federation of the Visually Impaired, will also perform a congratulatory show to commemorate the Disabled Cultural and Arts Festival.
Furthermore, at the Nam-gu Life Culture Center Multipurpose Hall, an exhibition titled “Looking Together. Spring” will be held for four days from the 22nd to the 25th.
The exhibition will feature 45 works including paintings and crafts.
A Nam-gu official said, “This festival will be an occasion for people with disabilities in the district to be proudly recognized as cultural artists,” adding, “There are no barriers in art, and we hope everyone will be moved and united as one.”
