[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City, Jeonbuk Province, announced on the 16th that it will begin free influenza vaccination in earnest from the 21st to prevent the spread of influenza (flu).
Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is a highly contagious respiratory disease caused by influenza virus type A or B.
It mainly spreads from December to May of the following year, and the most effective prevention method is to receive the influenza vaccine in advance.
The city will stagger the vaccination start times by target group and age group to ensure safe vaccination, as it will be conducted simultaneously with COVID-19 vaccinations.
From the 21st, vaccinations will begin for children who require two doses (aged 6 months to under 9 years old receiving their first vaccination).
Those receiving the vaccine for the first time or who have only received one dose in the past must complete two doses at least four weeks apart by April 30 of next year.
Children aged 9 to 13 years with previous influenza vaccination history and pregnant women can receive one dose starting from the 5th of next month.
Vaccinations for seniors aged 75 and older will begin on the 12th of next month, for those aged 70 to 74 on the 17th, and for those aged 65 to 69 from the 20th, all free of charge.
Free influenza vaccinations can be administered at designated medical institutions nationwide regardless of the recipient’s address. The list of designated medical institutions can be checked on the city’s website or the vaccination helper site.
However, since the number of vaccinations available per medical institution is limited, it is necessary to confirm availability before visiting, and identification, maternity notebooks, or pregnancy confirmation documents must be brought.
The city will not provide paid vaccinations at public health centers to prevent the resurgence of COVID-19 infections and to ensure safe and distributed vaccinations.
A public health center official said, “As COVID-19 vaccinations and influenza vaccinations are being conducted simultaneously amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we ask that everyone strictly follow the vaccination schedule by age group to ensure safe vaccination.”
