Request for Industry-Academia-Research Cooperation to Hear Semiconductor Companies' Difficulties and Designate Specialized Complexes
Gim Jang-ho, Mayor of Gumi City, visited 'SK Siltron and Wonik QnC,' leading semiconductor industry companies in the Gumi National Industrial Complex, together with Lee Chang-han, Vice Chairman of the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association, and Kwak Ho-sang, President of Kumoh National Institute of Technology.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] On the afternoon of the 18th at 3 PM, Gumi Mayor Kim Jang-ho visited the leading semiconductor companies in the Gumi National Industrial Complex, ‘SK Siltron and Wonik QnC,’ along with Lee Chang-han, Executive Vice President of the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association, and Kwak Ho-sang, President of Kumoh National Institute of Technology.
During the visit, they listened to the requests and difficulties faced by local semiconductor companies.
They formed a consensus on the necessity of designating Gumi as a ‘Next-Generation Semiconductor Specialized Complex’ and exchanged various opinions on fostering the next-generation semiconductor industry, including securing next-generation semiconductor technology, nurturing semiconductor specialists, and creating a next-generation semiconductor ecosystem.
Gumi City requested close cooperation among industry, academia, and research institutes for the designation of a specialized complex.
The accompanying ‘Korea Semiconductor Industry Association’ is the only private organization in Korea representing the improvement of the semiconductor business environment and enhancing cooperation among the complex domestic semiconductor companies, with participation from over 300 companies including Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.
Gumi Mayor Kim Jang-ho stated, “If designated as a next-generation semiconductor specialized complex, it will be possible to provide full support including tax benefits, deregulation, and nurturing semiconductor specialists,” and requested close cooperation among industry, academia, and research institutes for the designation of the specialized complex.
