[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] On the 18th, Jeonbuk Gochang-gun held the 8th Rice Day commemorative event with about 50 participants including members of the Gochang-gun Water Research Association and heads of agricultural-related organizations.
According to the county on the 19th, Rice Day (August 18 every year) is a commemorative day established by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in 2015 to promote rice consumption and raise awareness of the value of rice.
August 18 was chosen to signify the eighty-eight (八十八) touches needed for rice harvesting.
For the first time, the event was held with the Gochang-gun Water Research Association members and Gochang-gun together to highlight the importance of rice.
The event included a rice cake cutting ceremony made with Gochang rice and a donation of 500 kg of rice cultivated in Gochang to the Gochang-gun Disabled Independent Living Support Center, promoting the value of rice and Gochang rice.
County Governor Shim Deokseop said, “We will work with one heart and one mind to promote the premiumization and consumption of Gochang rice for local farmers who are facing difficulties in various ways due to decreased rice consumption and falling rice prices.”
