[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] Jeollanam-do Yeonggwang-gun announced on the 12th that the "49th National City and Province Gymnastics Competition for the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism" will be held at Yeonggwang National Sports Center from the 18th to the 21st.
Hosted by the Korea Gymnastics Association (President Han Seonghee), this competition will feature a total of 125 teams and 500 athletes from 15 cities and provinces nationwide, with participants from boys and girls in elementary, middle, and high school, as well as university and general divisions.
This competition strongly reflects the will of County Governor Kang Jongman, who aims to promote the health and physical fitness of residents by holding 365 sports events as part of the 8th term county governor's campaign promises, fostering community harmony and communication, and revitalizing the local economy, which has been depressed due to COVID-19.
In particular, gymnastics stars such as Yang Hak-seon, the 2012 London Olympics vault gold medalist, Shin Je-hwan, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics vault gold medalist, and Yeo Seo-jeong, the bronze medalist, are expected to attract the attention of spectators.
A county official said, "We will do our best to provide administrative support such as accommodation, food, stadium facilities, and conveniences for the athletes participating in the competition to ensure the successful hosting of the gymnastics competition, enhance the county's image as a leading sports city, and greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy."
He added, "We ask for the residents' great interest and attendance at the gymnastics competition."
