Use of Dementia Safety Center by Mobility-Impaired and Local Residents
Usage Area - Limited to Gokseong-gun
[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jong-seon] The Dementia Safety Center of Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) announced that it started operating the ‘Dementia Memory Taxi’ from July 28 for elderly residents using the center.
On the 28th, Gokseong-gun and Gokseong Taxi signed an agreement to operate the ‘Dementia Memory Taxi.’
Eleven people, including the deputy director of the Dementia Safety Center, attended the signing ceremony.
The two organizations discussed taxi operation requirements and routes, and reviewed how to respond in case of accidents.
Until now, the Dementia Safety Center has conducted home visit diagnostic tests for elderly residents who have difficulty moving and cannot receive dementia screening.
Some of them require in-depth consultation with specialists, but it was difficult to receive such interviews because they had trouble leaving their homes without caregivers.
To improve this, the Jeonnam Dementia Safety Center introduced a shuttle service system using taxis for the first time.
Although named Dementia Memory Taxi, elderly residents who have difficulty moving and cannot participate in cognitive programs operated by the center can also use it.
This is because the purpose of the Dementia Memory Taxi is to increase accessibility for local residents with mobility difficulties who use the Gokseong-gun Dementia Safety Center.
There is no personal charge, so there is no burden in using the service.
The service area is limited to within Gokseong-gun.
It does not operate on holidays and is available on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The drivers of the Dementia Memory Taxi have completed dementia partner training, so it is expected that dementia patients can use the service more comfortably.
Meanwhile, the Gokseong-gun Dementia Safety Center is promoting various dementia management projects for local residents.
In particular, it is strengthening cooperation with the local community and working to create a dementia-friendly social atmosphere.
This agreement is the third this year following agreements with the National Gokseong Healing Forest and Gokseong Sarang Hospital.
