[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Korea National Oil Corporation has introduced an eco-friendly project that replaces single-use items such as vending machine cups with reusable items.
On the 27th, the Oil Corporation announced that on the 26th, it signed an eco-friendly business agreement with SK Telecom and the Happiness Connect Foundation at its Ulsan headquarters to reduce single-use items.
The agreement ceremony was held with the purpose of creating an eco-friendly environment by introducing a reusable cup circulation system.
When purchasing a beverage at the company’s cafe, customers can order with a reusable cup by paying an additional deposit of 1,000 won. The system refunds the deposit in cash or eco-points when the used cup is returned to an unmanned return machine.
SK Telecom, participating in this project, supports the technology that applies artificial intelligence (AI) to the unmanned ICT return machine to determine the suitability of reusable cups and refund the deposit accordingly.
Happiness Connect collects cups that pass the suitability test, subjects them to a seven-step cleaning process, and resupplies them. The reusable cup circulation system is scheduled to operate after August, following a preliminary business explanation for employees using the cafe within the Ulsan office building.
Woo Jin-ha, Head of Management Support at the Oil Corporation, who attended the agreement ceremony, said, “The introduction of the reusable cup circulation system is meaningful as it allows us to participate in the global carbon dioxide reduction movement through small daily practices.”
He added, “We plan to develop various ESG programs to create an eco-friendly work environment.”
