[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] President Yoon Seok-yeol received the 4th COVID-19 vaccine dose on the 13th. President Yoon stated, "I urge many citizens to participate."

On the same day at 4 p.m., President Yoon was vaccinated at a public health center in Jung-gu, Seoul, and said, "Although we know well that breakthrough infections can occur even after vaccination, experts commonly agree that the vaccine significantly reduces the risk of severe illness or death," conveying this message.

President Yoon completed his 3rd dose last December. As health authorities expanded the 4th dose eligibility on this day, it appears he took the vaccine to set an example.

Meanwhile, the government expanded the 4th dose eligibility from the previous "60 years and older and immunocompromised" to "people in their 50s and those aged 18 and older with underlying conditions" due to the resurgence of COVID-19. The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency explained in a briefing, "We included people in their 50s in the 4th dose eligibility considering that many have underlying conditions and that nearly 96% have passed more than four months since their 3rd dose."
