[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Dongwoo Lee] This summer, amid concerns over supply and demand due to record-breaking peak power demand, public institutions will set indoor temperatures to 28℃ or higher to conserve energy.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 13th that it will review the summer power demand management implementation plans of about 200 public institutions.
Seventeen public institutions with high energy consumption will be closely inspected, and discussions will cover ▲compliance with appropriate indoor temperatures ▲efficient use of lighting and elevators ▲reduction of standby power ▲staggered summer vacations ▲and cooperation measures according to power supply and demand crisis levels.
Indoor temperatures in public institutions will be maintained at 28℃, which is 2℃ higher than the recommended appropriate indoor temperature for the private sector. Additionally, lighting and elevator use must be efficient, and standby power should be reduced.
Cheon Young-gil, Director of Energy Transition Policy at the Ministry of Industry, said, "Along with periodic inspections, we plan to promote on-site inspections to encourage public institutions to lead energy-saving efforts."
