[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 5th that it is recruiting startup companies to participate in the ‘2023 U.S. Las Vegas International Consumer Electronics Show (CES)’.
CES is a consumer electronics exhibition hosted by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) in the United States. It is one of the world’s largest exhibitions where you can see global innovative technologies, products, and market trends at a glance. The upcoming event will be held for four days from January 5 to 8, 2023.
At last year’s 'CES 2022,' a total of 30 startup companies participated with individual booths within the ‘K-STARTUP Pavilion,’ conducting 661 buyer and investor consultations on site. After the exhibition, approximately 43.5 billion KRW in investments were attracted.
In particular, six of the participating companies achieved the honor of being selected for the CES Innovation Awards, which are given to technologies and products with outstanding innovation. This award is presented by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) to leading innovative technologies and products worldwide.
Jung Taemyung, CEO of Hipoti&C, said, "After winning the CES 2022 Innovation Award, it became an opportunity to discover and collaborate with potential partners such as domestic and international investors," adding, "We are currently continuing systematic preparations to enter the U.S. market."
For the upcoming CES 2023, the Ministry plans to jointly operate the ‘K-STARTUP Integrated Pavilion’ with related organizations such as the Seoul Metropolitan Government, expanding the exhibition booth size and conducting local programs such as company presentations (IR pitching) and investment consultations.
Participating companies will be supported with pre-exhibition preparations starting in September, including training on how to write Innovation Award applications and lectures on Innovation Award-winning strategies by senior companies.
Additionally, during the exhibition, active promotion of participating companies will be carried out through individual company exhibitions, promotional videos, and marketing materials. Furthermore, support will be provided to help companies achieve meaningful results through on-site programs such as investment consultations, buyer meetings, and IR pitching.
After the exhibition, follow-up support will be provided to maximize the effects of participation, including media promotion with major achievements and interviews with outstanding companies, as well as networking and review seminars among participating companies.
Companies wishing to participate can apply through the K-STARTUP website from the 6th to the 25th of this month, with about 20 companies to be publicly recruited. Applications will be evaluated through document and interview screenings, and final selection will be made after a separate review by the CTA.
Kang Sincheon, Director of Technology Startup Division at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, said, “This is a great opportunity for companies seeking global expansion through CES to understand global market trends and establish entry strategies,” adding, “We will actively support the technology and innovation of domestic startups and venture companies to be well represented at CES 2023.”
