Attended Dinner Hosted by the King of Spain
Met Queen Letizia, Increased Intimacy Saying "We Are the Same Age"
(Madrid, Spain = Asia Economy Reporter Bae Kyunghwan) On the night of the 28th (local time), First Lady Kim Keon-hee, wife of President Yoon Suk-yeol, attended a welcome gala dinner hosted by King Felipe VI of Spain, where she engaged in a conversation with Queen Letizia about K-Beauty. Kim told Queen Letizia, "Korea's K-Beauty industry, including cosmetics, is very excellent."
This dinner marked the first joint appearance of the presidential couple during this tour. The wives of various heads of state showed interest in Kim, who became Korea's new First Lady last month, and Kim actively explained the excellence of Korean culture and industry. Kim greeted Queen Letizia by saying, "In Korea, people of the same age naturally become close. We are the same age." In response, Queen Letizia said, "When is your birthday? I will turn 50 in September," to which Kim replied, "Mine is also in September, on the 2nd."
In particular, Kim mentioned, "Your Majesty is also very famous and popular in Korea as a fashion star," and added, "Korea's K-Beauty industry, including cosmetics, is very excellent." Queen Letizia responded, "When I visited Korea three years ago, I was surprised by how beautiful all the women were, so I bought a lot of cosmetics."
Kim also exchanged greetings with U.S. President Joe Biden. Having briefly greeted each other at last month's Korea-U.S. summit, they checked on each other's well-being. Kim asked President Biden, "When you visited Korea last month, your comment 'married well' became a hot topic. Do you say that often?" President Biden replied, "I say that a lot. I confessed my intention to marry (Jill Biden) five times. The world knows that I love Jill Biden more than she loves me."
Meanwhile, the presidential office explained the dress code for the dinner during a briefing. A presidential office official said, "For reference, the dress code was 'cocktail dress,'" and added, "It was a dress that did not drag on the floor, and there was no color restriction."
