Semiconductor Special Committee Launches Full-Scale Activities... 1st Meeting on the 28th

[Asia Economy Reporter Kum Boryeong] The People Power Party's 'Special Committee for Strengthening Semiconductor Industry Competitiveness' will hold its first meeting on the 28th and begin full-scale activities.

According to the People Power Party Policy Committee on the 26th, the Semiconductor Special Committee will disclose the full list on the 27th and hold its first meeting at 10 a.m. on the 28th at the National Assembly.

The chairperson of the Semiconductor Special Committee was decided to be Yang Hyang-ja, an independent lawmaker formerly of the Democratic Party of Korea. The Policy Committee stated, "Lawmaker Yang, who will serve as chairperson, graduated from Gwangju Girls' Commercial High School, joined Samsung Electronics, worked in the semiconductor division for 30 years, and was promoted to an executive, making her a living witness to the 'creation of a legend.' We deeply appreciate Lawmaker Yang's courageous decision."

Earlier, Lawmaker Yang said on her Facebook, "I proposed a National Assembly-level semiconductor special committee involving both ruling and opposition parties, and received a promise to establish the committee immediately upon the opening of the National Assembly. Trusting the People Power Party's promise and will, I accept the position of chairperson of the Semiconductor Special Committee."

Co-vice chairpersons appointed were Lawmaker Song Seok-jun and Professor Kim Jeong-ho of the Department of Electrical Engineering at KAIST. Committee members include Lawmaker Kim Young-sik (Mechanical Engineering) and Lawmaker Yang Geum-hee (Electronic Engineering), both from science and engineering backgrounds, as well as Professor Jeong Deok-gyun of Seoul National University's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Park Dong-geon, advisor at SDC.

The Policy Committee said, "We have gathered the best experts from industry, academia, and politics, and plan to invite government officials from relevant ministries according to future schedules. Considering the national importance of the semiconductor industry and respecting Lawmaker Yang's intentions, we will propose expanding the committee to include the opposition party as a National Assembly special committee after the parliamentary organization is formed."

Furthermore, the Policy Committee emphasized, "Regardless of party or ideology, we will become a bipartisan organization that shares the will to strengthen the competitiveness of the semiconductor industry, which leads Korea's future food industry, and prepare for our future. We will truly elevate this as a model case where bipartisan cooperation and industry contribute to national unity."
