On the same day, as his first provincial visit since taking office, Minister Lee visited Samhyeon Smart Factory located in Changwon, Gyeongnam, toured the site, and held a meeting with representatives and experts from five smart factory companies. After discussing various difficulties experienced in the manufacturing field with them, Minister Lee promised to spare no policy support for the digital transformation of small and medium enterprises.
Samhyeon is a company producing drive motors for electric and hydrogen vehicles, and actuators for electric vehicles. Through the establishment of a smart factory, productivity has improved, and quality jobs have been created, with youth employment increasing by 38 over the past three years. Recently, Samhyeon was selected as a K-Smart Lighthouse Factory by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and plans to further advance its smart factory by building a digital twin using manufacturing big data and artificial intelligence algorithms.
This meeting was organized to listen to the vivid opinions of on-site smart factory companies and reflect them in the digital transformation policy for manufacturing SMEs. The companies suggested continuous promotion of smart factory dissemination and expansion, training of smart manufacturing specialists, and inducement of long-term employment.
Minister Lee stated, "In South Korea, ranked 5th in the world in manufacturing scale, small and medium manufacturing enterprises are the core of the economy," and promised, "We will prepare detailed implementation plans related to the digital transformation of small and medium manufacturing enterprises in the second half of the year."
