[On-site Video] Citizens Watching Nuriho 2nd Launch Say "Happy and Proud"

[Asia Economy PD Yoon Jin-geun] "Wow ~ it's going up!", "Let's fly!", "Let's succeed!"

At 4 PM on the 21st, the Nuri rocket (KSLV-II) was launched from Naro Space Center in Goheung, Jeollanam-do. The research team launched the rocket about eight months after the first launch failed last October. Citizens gathered in the Seoul Station waiting room watched the launch live on a large TV, praying for the success of the Nuri rocket launch.

At the moment the Nuri rocket completed the countdown and was launched, some citizens applauded and cheered. Afterwards, the Nuri rocket went through the stages of first, second, and third engine burns and fairing separation, successfully reaching the satellite orbit.

The citizens said they felt proud watching the successful second launch. Kim Jae-min (21) said, "Watching the success of the Nuri rocket launch, I felt that our country's aerospace technology is developing well," adding, "Since we are moving toward the goal of becoming the world's seventh space power, I feel proud that the international status of the Republic of Korea is rising."

Kim Byung-hyun (26) said, "Most of the rockets launched with our country's independent technology have failed so far," and added, "With this success, our country's scientific and technological status can be recognized worldwide."

Jeon Min-seok (21) said, "During the first launch, the engine combustion problem caused the orbit to deviate and the launch failed, but seeing the second launch approaching success makes me respect the research team," and expressed pride, saying, "We can expect our country's aerospace technology to develop in the coming decades."

Meanwhile, Minister Lee Jong-ho of the Ministry of Science and ICT announced at around 5:08 PM at the Naro Space Center press center that the Nuri rocket successfully reached its target orbit. The minister said, "Today, we stand at a monumental moment not only in the history of Korean science and technology but also in the history of the Republic of Korea," adding, "The Nuri rocket launched at 4 PM today was inserted into the target orbit, successfully separated the performance verification satellite, and settled into orbit," and declared, "We announce the success of the Korean launch vehicle Nuri rocket."
