[Asia Economy PD Yoon Jin-geun] “Our team has no idea where we should go…” (RM)
On the 14th, BTS announced that they would temporarily suspend their team music activities, and the fan club ‘ARMY’ continues to support them. BTS announced through their YouTube channel ‘BANGTANTV’ that they would temporarily halt music activities as the team BTS.
They cited burnout and loss of direction as reasons for temporarily stopping group music activities. RM, the leader of the team, expressed in the video, “What stories we tell and what messages we deliver are important, but it seems like those have disappeared.”
Foreign media such as AP News, The Washington Post, The New York Times, CNN, and BBC also reported on BTS’s suspension of activities. Some of these outlets expressed concerns that this temporary suspension might effectively be a step toward disbandment. The Indian media outlet ‘Firstpost’ mentioned cases of stars like *NSYNC, One Direction, and Backstreet Boys who declared ‘hiatus’ and never returned.
Regarding this, the agency Big Hit Music stated in a press release on the 15th, “BTS plans to carry out both team activities and individual activities.” BTS member Jungkook also stated on Naver V Live on the night of the 15th, “There is no thought of disbandment.”
ARMYs who received the news are supporting BTS through social networking services (SNS) and YouTube comments. ARMYs are leaving supportive posts such as “APOBANGPO” (ARMY Forever, BTS Forever), “We sincerely support individual activities,” and “I hope ARMY is not a shackle for BTS but a reliable friend.”
