[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] A man in his 50s, Mr. A, who harbored resentment after receiving a fine from the police, was stopped and arrested at the scene while attempting to set fire to a police substation.
According to the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency on the 13th, at around 7:40 a.m. on the 12th, Mr. A was arrested on suspicion of attempted arson of an occupied building after trying to ignite a fire at the Daegyo Police Substation in Yeongdo-gu with a water bottle containing gasoline and a lighter.
At around 6:30 a.m. on the 12th, Mr. A, intoxicated, was causing a disturbance to pedestrians on the street in Daegyo-dong, Yeongdo-gu, and was stopped by police officers.
The police issued a fine to Mr. A for causing public anxiety, and in response, Mr. A protested inside the substation for about 30 minutes around 7 a.m. before leaving.
Harboring resentment, Mr. A returned shortly after at 7:40 a.m. carrying gasoline and a lighter and committed the crime.
A police official stated, “Mr. A was arrested in the act, and after accurately determining the details of the crime, we plan to apply for an arrest warrant. We cannot disclose further details.”
