[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] A man in his 50s who drove three women from the same family to an extreme choice due to investment fraud has been arrested and indicted.
According to the legal community on the 8th, the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office arrested and indicted Mr. A (in his 50s) on charges including fraud under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes.
Earlier, Mr. A was prosecuted on charges of deceiving nine acquaintances from 2015 until the end of last year by promising "high monthly interest of 2-4% if they invest in bearer bonds and promissory notes," and embezzling 15 billion won. He is currently on trial at the Gwangju District Court while in custody.
In March, one of the victims, Ms. B, a woman in her 40s, attempted an extreme act after causing the deaths of her two daughters. The Damyang Police Station in Jeonnam arrested Ms. B on suspicion of murder and handed her over to the prosecution.
Ms. B is accused of killing her two daughters, aged in their 20s and teens, with a small sharp weapon in a passenger car parked near a bridge in Damyang-gun, Jeonnam, on March 9. Ms. B also self-harmed and was transferred to a hospital in critical condition, where she reportedly received treatment for several months.
She had invested 400 million won with Mr. A, who had been a longtime neighbor, and after belatedly deciding to file a fraud complaint, she left with her children and then committed this crime, according to the investigation.
