Hanwha Engineering & Construction announced on the 7th that it aims to make the K-pop specialized dome concert hall, 'CJ LiveCity Arena,' the world's best performance facility and a sacred site for K-pop.
Hanwha E&C began construction last October on the arena within CJ LiveCity, the world's first K-pop specialized concert hall. With an enormous scale featuring 20,000 indoor seats and an outdoor space capable of accommodating over 40,000 people, Hanwha E&C is solely responsible for the construction.
Kim Mankyeom, Head of Development Business Division at Hanwha E&C, said, "Hanwha E&C is a construction company with top-level technology and domestic and international achievements in the fields of domes, arenas, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions). With a unique pride in building the country's first arena, we will definitely complete CJ LiveCity Arena as a 'sacred site of K-pop' and a landmark."
CJ LiveCity, located in Janghang-dong, Ilsandong-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, is the world's first 'K-content experiential complex' where people worldwide can experience Korea's representative cultural contents such as music, movies, dramas, and entertainment. Along with the arena, K-content experience facilities, a global content business town, commercial, office, and accommodation facilities, and eco-friendly green spaces will be developed together, expected to become a hub for K-content attracting Hallyu fans worldwide.
The arena, the core of CJ LiveCity, is a state-of-the-art performance hall optimized for music performances by top global artists, led by K-pop, and is scheduled for completion in 2024. The interior space is designed in a sturdy bowl shape to maximize the visual and acoustic satisfaction of large audiences. Additionally, the curtain wall glass skin and LED fan facade applied to the exterior will blur the boundaries between the inside and outside of the venue, maximizing customer experience.
The arena will operate more than 190 diverse performances and events annually, both indoors and outdoors, by establishing infrastructure that allows the installation and dismantling of large-scale concert stages in just one day. To achieve this, Hanwha E&C plans to construct a dome structure with a large space while ensuring stability by considering various loads such as structural, equipment, wind, earthquake, rainfall, and snow loads. The roof will apply a bi-directional truss system that assembles pre-fabricated upper trusses in blocks to enhance constructability, quality, and on-site safety.
Moreover, from the early stages of arena construction, Hanwha E&C will collaborate with CJ's top experts in cultural content, who have successfully staged world-class K-pop events such as MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards) and KCON, to apply optimal display, sound systems, and convenience facilities.
Jung Youngkwon, Head of Business Development at CJ LiveCity, said, "CJ LiveCity is preparing the arena together with the world's best partners in various fields, including experts in performance and broadcasting cultural content. Based on Hanwha E&C's construction, which has excellent competitiveness in complex development, CJ LiveCity Arena will be born as the best music performance hall leading the global K-pop fandom culture."
Meanwhile, Hanwha E&C completed the Philippine Arena, the world's largest dome concert hall listed in the Guinness World Records in 2014. As a landmark building in the Philippines, it was completed using the design-build method, with Hanwha E&C fully responsible for the entire process from design to construction.
