Gyeongnam Police Hold Meeting to Respond to Cargo Solidarity General Strike ... Arrests for Transport Obstruction, Lane Occupation, Assault, and Vehicle Damage Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency held an inspection meeting in preparation for the Cargo Solidarity Union's general strike scheduled for the 7th.


The meeting was conducted by connecting related functions such as security, intelligence, and investigation of the provincial police agency and all police stations via video conference.


At the meeting, response measures for the general strike rallies to be held mainly at major workplaces such as Daewoo Shipbuilding and Samsung Heavy Industries in Geoje, Gyeongnam, Jinhae in Busan New Port, and major cargo vehicle operation sites in the province were discussed.


The plan is to mobilize up to five companies of police riot squads, as well as law enforcement personnel from criminal investigation and traffic units, to investigate illegal activities and minimize inconvenience to citizens.


A police agency official emphasized that legally reported assemblies will be guaranteed, but illegal acts will be strictly dealt with according to law and principles.


Obstruction of transportation, lane occupation, assault on drivers, vehicle damage, and assault on police officers will be immediately arrested on site and prosecuted with detention as a principle.


All illegal acts will be thoroughly evidenced, and judicial measures as well as administrative actions on driver's licenses will be actively considered.


The Cargo Solidarity Union of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions Public Transport Workers' Union, which announced the general strike on the 7th, is demanding ▲abolition of the sunset clause on safe freight rates ▲expansion of safe freight rates to all vehicle types and all items ▲freight rate increases ▲abolition of the consignment system ▲expansion of labor rights and industrial accident insurance.
