[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] In the June 1 local elections, former National Assembly member Jeong Mun-heon was elected as the mayor of Jongno-gu, Seoul, and Kim Gil-seong of the People Power Party was elected as the mayor of Jung-gu.
Additionally, Park Hee-young, a People Power Party candidate and special advisor to Minister of Unification Kwon Young-se, was elected as the mayor of Yongsan-gu, and Jeong Won-o, the current mayor, was re-elected as the mayor of Seongdong-gu.
Along with this, Jeon Seong-su, former Deputy Mayor of Incheon, was elected as the mayor of Seocho-gu, and Jo Seong-myeong, former chairman of the Gangnam-gu Council, was elected as the mayor of Gangnam-gu.
Kim Gil-seong, the People Power Party candidate for mayor of Jung-gu, defeated the incumbent mayor Seo Yang-ho of the Democratic Party by a margin of about 500 votes.
Notably, Jeong Won-o, mayor of Seongdong-gu, demonstrated strong support by winning over People Power Party candidate Kang Maeng-hoon by 21,080 votes in Seongdong-gu, where during the last presidential election, People Power Party candidate Yoon Seok-yeol had won by about 20,000 votes (10%) against Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung.
