New Daily reported in its article on the 27th that the chairman of the Seoul City Council, affiliated with the Democratic Party, allegedly provided group sexual bribery and offered money and entertainment multiple times to dozens of fellow council members from the same party, prompting a police investigation.
The media outlet stated that the civic group, the Committee for the People’s Livelihood Measures, filed a complaint against Seoul City Council Chairman Kim In-ho with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on the 2nd.
The complaint reportedly contains allegations that Chairman Kim provided alcohol, sexual bribery, and money envelopes to 30 to 40 Seoul city council members at a nightlife establishment in Dongdaemun-gu between May and June 2020.
In response, Chairman Kim In-ho’s office immediately issued a rebuttal statement criticizing the report.
The office stated, “The contents of the article are entirely groundless and merely an unconstitutional, disruptive political operation aimed at shaking public opinion during a sensitive period ahead of the local elections. The nightlife establishment in Dongdaemun-gu mentioned in the article is an unknown location.”
They also announced that they will hold the Committee for the People’s Livelihood Measures, which filed the false complaint, and New Daily, which knowingly reported the false accusation, legally and criminally responsible.
The office further claimed, “Especially in May and June 2020, when COVID-19 was spreading, restaurants and other establishments were under gathering bans, so the report’s content is unbelievable just by this fact alone.”
