[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] Kang Yong-seok, an independent candidate for Governor of Gyeonggi Province, announced his intention to establish a political party.

On the 25th, while campaigning at Starfield in Hanam, Candidate Kang said, "(Those who supported me) sent me donations so that I could run as an independent and sound the alarm against the two-party politics."

Kang said, "The average of 32 polls released up to today is 5.88%. The 5.88% who will vote for me are not people who will skip voting no matter if it rains, snows, or whatever happens that day."

He added, "If I exceed 10%, I promise one thing for sure. In the next general election, I will definitely establish a party that never accepts money, a clean party created purely with the help of the people for the first time in Korean history, and completely change Korean politics."

Kang pointed out, "Currently in South Korea, there are cases where people buy parliamentary seats with money. This is the biggest problem in Korean politics."

He continued, "Political commentators and the media predicted that I would make a backroom deal with the People Power Party, take a position, join the party, or support candidate Kim Eun-hye and not withdraw. In fact, through various channels, similar offers were conveyed to me. However, I rejected them all," he revealed.

Referring to the TV debate hosted by the Gyeonggi Province Election Broadcasting Debate Committee on the 23rd, Kang said, "Candidate Kim Eun-hye’s husband owns a quarter of the Dabong Tower in Daechi-dong, but she reported a 200 billion won building as 15 billion won, underreporting by 10 to 30 billion won."

He criticized, "No public official under any Public Official Ethics Act has ever underreported assets by 10 billion won. Yet this candidate calls herself a Gyeonggi Mom."

Regarding candidate Kim Dong-yeon, he said, "(During the debate) his hands were trembling, his eyes were spinning, and he lost his composure. He said he would turn opportunities into crises. I won’t say more, but he is an extraordinary person."

On Hanam-related pledges, he emphasized, "The core of Hanam’s development lies in how regulations on the Han River area and the Greenbelt are eased. If these regulations are significantly relaxed, the Han River area can be developed into a high-end district."

He added, "Apartment prices in Hanam, Namyangju, and Gwangju will generally rise two to three times. To those living in Hanam, I strongly urge you to secure a home here. Buying a house in Hanam will be the best and most certain investment in your life."

Present at the campaign rally were Campaign Committee Chairman Cha Myung-jin, Kim Hanna, wife of the late Sergeant Han Sang-guk, a fallen soldier of the Second Battle of Yeonpyeong, and spokesperson Kim So-yeon.
