Kim Ikang, Candidate for Gwangju Seo-gu Office Chief, "Sangmu District Must Be Included in the Special Act for Aging New Towns"

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Ikang, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate for Mayor of Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, has argued that the Sangmu District should be included in the Special Act on the Regeneration and Improvement of Aged New Towns.

Following National Assembly member Song Gapseok's joint press conference with members Park Chandae and Ha Taekyung on the 20th, urging the swift discussion and processing of the "Special Act on the Regeneration and Improvement of Aged New Towns," Kim became the second local politician to advocate for this agenda.

Based on the relevant area, Kim, who is running for Seo-gu Mayor in the upcoming June 1 local elections, has secured the Democratic Party nomination and is developing policies and pledges grounded in diverse and detailed local issues.

Kim stated, "Seo-gu is the core of Gwangju's economy, and the Sangmu District, which is at its center, is a regional hub city developed around the same time as the first-generation new towns. It should naturally be included in this Special Act on Aged New Towns for regeneration and improvement."

He added, "I will make the Sangmu District, which forms the foundation of the urban convergence special zone, the largest commercial district in South Korea and use it as a stepping stone for the development of the MICE industry."

Meanwhile, during the Democratic Party primary TV debate, candidate Kim Ikang presented his views on the development plan for the MICE industry, focusing on the urban convergence special zone centered on the Sangmu District.
