Jeonnam Province Deputy Governor Park Chang-hwan Inspects e-Mobility and Wind Power Industry Sites

[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Park Chang-hwan, Deputy Governor for Political Affairs of Jeonnam Province, visited the Yeonggwang e-Mobility Research Center and the super-large wind power demonstration base construction project site on the day to listen to the progress of the project and encourage related researchers and company officials.

He visited the Korea Automotive Technology Institute e-Mobility Research Center located in the Yeonggwang Daema Electric Vehicle Industrial Complex, and attended by the Yeonggwang County Governor and others, heard about the current status of fostering the e-Mobility industry from the Korea Automotive Technology Institute and discussed future development plans.

Deputy Governor Park said, “Recently, other cities and provinces such as Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam are competitively promoting super-regional cooperation projects, and the government is also emerging super-regional cooperation projects as an important policy task,” adding, “Cooperative growth with Gwangju, which is fostering the mobility industry as a future industry, is more important and necessary than ever.”

He continued, “I ask the Korea Automotive Technology Institute to lead the cooperative growth in the future advanced mobility and aviation fields between Jeonnam Province and Gwangju City.”

Afterwards, Deputy Governor Park visited Sebo Mobility Co., Ltd., a micro electric vehicle manufacturer in the province, to hear about the company’s status and difficulties.

Deputy Governor Park said, “We plan to continuously propose to the government measures to create new demand for micro electric vehicles such as Sebo Mobility and other e-Mobility companies in the province to help them grow, and to devise support plans,” adding, “I am grateful to the officials who have passionately continued their business activities despite difficult conditions such as COVID-19.”

This year, Jeonnam Province is prioritizing the purchase subsidy for 1,614 e-Mobility vehicles produced in the province and is the first in the nation to promote a pilot project supporting lease fees for e-Mobility products in the province (500 units).

Deputy Governor Park also inspected the Wind Power System Evaluation Center and project site located in Baeksu-eup, Yeonggwang, to check the progress of the super-large wind power demonstration base construction project.

The super-large wind power demonstration base construction project is a facility construction project that started in 2020 and will continue until the end of this year, with a total project cost of 26 billion KRW, aimed at quickly testing, evaluating, and demonstrating the functions of super-large wind turbines of 5MW or more being developed by domestic companies.

With the high proportion of foreign products in the domestic wind power market, it is expected to greatly contribute to securing global competitiveness by domesticating super-large wind turbines and improving product reliability, and to the construction of the 8.2GW Sinan offshore wind power complex.

In March, an 8MW super-large wind turbine developed by a domestic company was installed, and currently, the establishment of demonstration monitoring facilities and wind condition measurement systems is underway.

Deputy Governor Park said, “Jeonnam Province is actively investing in e-Mobility and wind power generation projects to foster future new industries,” and added, “We will continue to actively support related projects to attract companies to the province, create jobs, and revitalize the local economy.”
