[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Polestar reduced greenhouse gas emissions per vehicle sold in 2021 by 6% through the transition to renewable energy and increased energy efficiency.
On the 18th, Polestar announced the release of its second sustainability report, highlighting progress toward bold climate goals.
Since last year, Polestar has been transparently publishing sustainability reports to prove that corporate growth and climate neutrality goals can coexist. Polestar aims to halve the carbon emissions per vehicle sold between 2020 and 2030. The company targets true climate-neutral vehicle production by 2030 and achieving climate neutrality across the entire value chain by 2040.
Previously, Polestar announced the 'Polestar Zero Project,' which moves beyond passive efforts like planting trees to offset carbon emissions, aiming to eliminate carbon emissions throughout the vehicle lifecycle?from raw material extraction, material processing, product manufacturing, to ownership?to create fully climate-neutral cars by 2030.
Additionally, Polestar declared product sustainability by displaying sustainability information for the Polestar 2 in all retail environments in 2021 to improve carbon footprint and transparency. Through a partnership with Circular, Polestar introduced various sustainability solutions, including blockchain technology to enable tracking of mineral locations from production to finished vehicle materials.
Fredrika Klar?n, Polestar’s Head of Sustainability, emphasized, “What can be measured can also be solved,” adding, “The sustainability report is central to the transparency Polestar pursues, and through the annual report, it monitors Polestar’s direction toward its goals and demonstrates that declared commitments are being implemented.”
In 2021, Polestar appointed dedicated leaders in four strategic sustainability areas?climate neutrality, transparency, circularity, and inclusion?and continues ongoing engagement and education with global employees.
