Myongji Hospital Opens Liver Intensive Care Unit Myongji Hospital Opens Intensive Care Unit for Liver Patients.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Myongji Hospital announced on the 18th that it has opened a 'Liver Intensive Care Unit (LICU)' serving as an auxiliary intensive care unit for patients with liver diseases.

The LICU is a sub-intensive care unit equipped with advanced equipment and staffed by specialized nurses, providing 24-hour intensive treatment and management for patients with liver cirrhosis and liver failure who are expected to experience acute exacerbation symptoms, as well as patients with hepatocellular carcinoma who are anticipated to have complications. It is equipped with monitors that allow focused control of each patient and ICU beds that can detect changes in patient weight 24 hours a day.

The Liver Intensive Care Unit admits patients with liver cirrhosis and liver failure who show or are expected to show complications such as variceal bleeding, hepatic encephalopathy, sedative delirium, acute renal dysfunction, and patients suspected of or experiencing complications after hepatocellular carcinoma treatment.

Professor Lee Hyo-seok, head of the Liver Center and a gastroenterologist, said, “Liver diseases do not show symptoms, so meticulous management of disease progression and immediate treatment are essential,” adding, “The Liver Intensive Care Unit will contribute to the rapid recovery of patients with acute liver diseases, including liver failure.”

Myongji Hospital plans to hold an online clinical symposium at 2 p.m. on the 27th to commemorate the opening of the LICU and the Advanced Liver Cancer Center, introducing the latest treatment methods for advanced liver cancer.
