[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] A newborn baby was found dead in the apartment complex's garbage sorting area, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
The Dongdaemun Police Station in Seoul announced on the 15th that they received a report on the 13th of this month at 6:24 a.m. about a garbage bag containing a newborn at a recycling area in an apartment complex in Dongdaemun-gu. Emergency responders who arrived at the scene checked the baby's condition but found the infant was already deceased.
It is reported that the deceased newborn was discovered when a cleaning service worker was collecting garbage bags and loading them onto a vehicle, and one of the bags tore, spilling its contents. The baby was found naked with the umbilical cord still attached. A police official stated, "We are analyzing nearby CCTV footage to find the person who abandoned the baby," and added, "An autopsy has been requested from the National Forensic Service to determine the exact time of death."
