Gyeonggi-do, 64 Illegal Real Estate Agencies 'Caught'

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has identified 63 real estate agencies that engaged in illegal brokerage activities, such as violating internet listing and advertising regulations or failing to report the employment of brokerage assistants.

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 12th that from March 24 to April 15, it conducted a joint crackdown with city and county authorities on 461 real estate agencies in the province and uncovered 64 violations of the Real Estate Brokerage Act and other laws at 63 agencies.

Among the major cases, real estate agency A located in Bundang-gu, Seongnam City, was found to have failed to delete listings for properties that had already been contracted, despite knowing this fact and receiving requests from clients to remove the advertisements. Instead, the agency continued to advertise the properties as available, leading to its detection.

Real estate agency B in Siheung City was fined for violating the Real Estate Brokerage Act after it was found that the phone number of a brokerage assistant was listed on a banner advertisement for a brokerage property.

Real estate agency C in Hanam City was found to have engaged in illegal activities such as inaccurately indicating the location of brokerage properties in advertisements, violating regulations requiring precise listing and advertising of brokerage properties.

The province plans to impose administrative sanctions such as business suspension through the relevant local governments on the 63 agencies confirmed to have committed illegal acts.

A provincial official stated, "We conducted guidance and inspections of real estate agencies to establish a fair and transparent real estate transaction order and eradicate illegal brokerage activities," adding, "We will continue to strengthen crackdowns on illegal brokerage activities."
