[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The Yoon Suk-yeol administration is pursuing a plan to establish a trilateral liaison office for South Korea, North Korea, and the United States either in Panmunjom or Washington. Additionally, under close coordination between South Korea and the U.S., it has presented a predictable roadmap for North Korea's denuclearization.
The Presidential Transition Committee announced the '20 Promises to the People' and the '110 National Tasks' containing these details at 11 a.m. on the 3rd.
First, the new government will institutionalize a security dialogue channel among South Korea, North Korea, and the U.S. in the diplomatic sector. The plan is to establish a trilateral liaison office in Panmunjom or Washington and operate predictable and stable dialogue through regular communication.
Along with this, under close coordination between South Korea and the U.S., a predictable denuclearization blueprint was also presented. The new government intends to pursue denuclearization negotiations with North Korea based on the principle of 'reciprocity' and plans to initiate peace agreement negotiations if there is substantial progress in North Korea's denuclearization.
Furthermore, it plans to maintain strong and effective sanctions against North Korea and strengthen international cooperation to ensure thorough implementation of United Nations Security Council resolutions. The strategy includes eliciting constructive roles from China and Russia for North Korea's denuclearization.
Moreover, the new government will also focus on improving the human rights and humanitarian situation of North Korean residents together with the international community. Chairman Ahn Cheol-soo explained, "Through principled engagement with North Korea, we will seek to improve the human rights and humanitarian situation of North Korean residents in cooperation with the international community."
