Naju-si Conducts Public Official Training in Preparation for Local Elections

[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Han-hyuk] On the 2nd, Naju City in Jeollanam-do announced that it conducted education on eradicating drunk driving and establishing public service discipline for all public officials at the city hall's large conference room.

The public service discipline education was conducted through attendance at the May regular assembly and video viewing by each department.

Although the so-called 'Yoon Chang-ho Act,' which increases the punishment level for drivers causing casualties due to drunk driving and strengthens drunk driving standards, has led to an overall decrease in the number of drunk driving detections, drunk driving has not yet been eradicated.

Accordingly, the city establishes an annual plan to eradicate drunk driving and implements various policies such as 'education for all employees,' 'department head-led internal education,' 'drunk driving tests using breathalyzers in vulnerable departments,' and 'sending drunk driving prevention text messages.'

In particular, drunk driving by public officials will be subject to strict disciplinary standards such as salary reduction, suspension, demotion, dismissal, and discharge under a zero-tolerance policy to achieve 'zero drunk driving.'

With the 8th local elections scheduled for June 1, the city is also thoroughly ensuring strict election neutrality of public officials and the establishment of public service discipline.

Since March, the city has been continuously monitoring public officials' election involvement, violations of election neutrality obligations on SNS, and lax public service discipline during the election period through joint inspections with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and Jeollanam-do, as well as internal audits.

A city official said, "Through this education, we hope that affiliated employees will reaffirm their duties as public officials by establishing strict public service discipline during the election period and raising awareness of drunk driving behavior."
