[Asia Economy Online Issue Team] Sugar, a former member of the group S.E.S. who caused controversy due to 'habitual overseas gambling,' has started internet broadcasting activities.
On the afternoon of the 25th, Sugar held her first live broadcast through the internet broadcasting platform Flextv.
On that day, the number of viewers of Sugar's broadcast quickly surpassed 2,000 and even exceeded 3,000 at its peak. Additionally, Sugar, who received consecutive donations totaling 10,000 points (approximately 1.1 million KRW), jumped up from her seat and performed a girl group dance.
Sugar said, "I was so hungry for your messages. Thank you for your words of support. Today, I am really gathering my courage to broadcast. I am more nervous than when I performed," adding, "I missed you all a lot. You waited a lot, right? I waited a lot too," greeting her fans with tears.
Sugar repeatedly apologized for the controversy related to gambling. She said, "I gambled. I have been truly immature and have been reflecting a lot on my wrong judgment and foolish actions. I was really reckless and ignorant, and I was wrong. I sincerely want to apologize," bowing her head and saying, "To my fans who liked me, I was really wrong."
She continued, "I missed this kind of communication a lot. I haven't been outside for a year and a half. I really lived looking only at the ground for a while, but now I am finally looking at the sky a little. People were so scary, and I lived without courage, but I came out with the thought that I have to live again," adding, "I want you to become a part of me. I hope we can go through life together."
Sugar said, "Bada unnie and Eugene were very worried and are watching the broadcast together now. It feels very reassuring," she said.
Meanwhile, Sugar was prosecuted in 2019 on charges of habitual gambling and was sentenced to six months in prison with a two-year probation. She was accused of habitual gambling 26 times overseas, including in Macau, from August 2016 to May 2018, involving a total amount of 790 million KRW.
After about four years of self-reflection, Sugar recently appeared before the public through TV Chosun's 'Star Documentary My Way.' She then chose live broadcasting as her first step to resume activities.
