On the 24th, Hyundai Motor's 'Ioniq 5' and Kia's 'EV6' were selected as the most competitive vehicles in a comparison of four electric SUV models recently conducted by the German automotive magazine Auto Motor und Sport.
Auto Motor und Sport is one of the three most trusted German automotive magazines alongside Auto Bild and Auto Zeitung, exerting significant influence on consumers not only in Germany but across Europe.
The recent comparative evaluation published in Auto Motor und Sport covered four models fiercely competing in the European electric vehicle market: Ioniq 5, EV6, Tesla Model Y, and Ford Mustang Mach-E. The evaluation criteria included seven categories: ▲Body ▲Safety ▲Comfort ▲Powertrain ▲Driving Behavior ▲Environment ▲Cost.
The Ioniq 5 ranked first in four of the seven evaluation categories, including Body, Safety, and Comfort, achieving a total score of 650 points. It surpassed the Tesla Model Y, which scored 586 points, and the Ford Mustang Mach-E, which scored 566 points, to claim the overall top spot. The Ioniq 5 outperformed the Model Y by 64 points and the Mustang Mach-E by 84 points, dominating its competitors by a significant margin.
The Ioniq 5 received the highest score of 112 points in the Comfort category, which relates to ride quality, quietness, and convenience features. It also earned the highest score in the Safety category, which includes detailed evaluations such as driving safety, braking distance, and safety equipment, outperforming competing vehicles. Additionally, the Ioniq 5 was recognized for its product competitiveness by receiving the highest score in the Body category, which assesses interior space, versatility, functionality, and all-around visibility compared to other vehicles.
Auto Motor und Sport commented, “The Ioniq 5 offers ample space to accommodate five large adults and their luggage, and its lounge-like comfortable front seats are a strong point.” They added, “Despite its boxy shape, it delivers smooth and decisive curved driving, and its ability to firmly control vehicle movements and agile handling is impressive.”
The EV6 scored a total of 636 points, securing second place overall ahead of the Tesla Model Y and Ford Mustang Mach-E. It received the highest score in the Driving Behavior category, which includes detailed items such as handling and driving dynamics, and also scored highly in the Comfort, Safety, and Body categories, outperforming overseas competitors.
Auto Motor und Sport praised the EV6, saying, “It feels like a car from a different league, a different era,” and described it as “a vehicle capable of agile driving with smooth yet unexaggerated and goal-oriented precise steering.”
The Ioniq 5 and EV6 have continued to receive various positive reviews and awards in the European market. Recently, the Ioniq 5 achieved a triple crown at the 2022 World Car Awards, winning World Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle of the Year, and World Car Design of the Year.
