[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in expressed his gratitude on the 11th as his Twitter followers surpassed 2 million.

On that day, President Moon sent a thank-you message through Twitter and social networking services (SNS), saying, "I never paid much attention to the number of followers, but suddenly I saw it had reached 2,005,000."

President Moon said, "Twitter has been an important means of communication since I entered politics," and added, "I would like to thank those who have always sent me encouragement and love through tweets."

He also said, "I look forward to having new conversations about a new life after leaving politics when my term ends."

President Moon's Twitter followers surpassed 1 million in April 2016, and after six years, the number has doubled. He also expressed gratitude when his followers first reached 1 million. A Blue House official explained, "The number of followers steadily increased throughout the term, and even though it is the end of the term, it surpassed 1.8 million in May last year and has continued to grow, now exceeding 2 million."

He added, "Over the past five years, the President has worked hard on state affairs, and despite the five years marked by crises such as the North Korean nuclear threat, economic crisis, and COVID-19 crisis, he has worked hard as President to build the great Republic of Korea together with the people and businesses. I think this includes support, gratitude, and encouragement from the people."

The Blue House also analyzed that this is closely related to President Moon maintaining a high approval rating in the 40% range despite various 'controversies' until the end of his term. A Blue House official said, "There may be some fluctuations, but considering the various issues that arose last week and the week before, we thank the public for maintaining the approval rating itself."

They referred to the fact that the approval rating did not drop despite controversies such as First Lady Kim Jung-sook's clothing expenses and the Yangsan private residence issue, as well as controversies related to Buddhist heritage sites. A public opinion research firm, the Korea Society Opinion Institute (KSOI), conducted a survey commissioned by TBS on the 8th and 9th targeting 1,013 men and women nationwide aged 18 and over, asking for an evaluation of 'President Moon Jae-in's state administration,' which showed a positive rating of 47.4%.

The Blue House also hinted that letters of encouragement from supporters have increased significantly. The official said, "During the term, about 50 letters arrived daily, but recently, near the end of the term, about 150 letters arrive each day," adding, "The content includes messages like 'It was a crisis throughout the term, but you overcame it,' 'Well done,' 'Thank you,' and 'You worked hard.'"
