[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 5th, Mayor Oh Se-hoon of Seoul will hold a tree-planting event at Gwanghwamun Square, which will return to the citizens this summer, on the occasion of the '77th Arbor Day.'
Mayor Oh will plant 'Sansuyu,' a representative spring tree, with citizens from various districts of Seoul, including the citizen participation group, in the Four Seasons Garden being created in front of Sejongno Park.
Gwanghwamun Square is currently undergoing construction on the 'Citizen Square' adjacent to the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, with a full opening scheduled for July.
According to the Gwanghwamun Square enhancement and development plan announced by Mayor Oh in June last year, the construction is focused on ?strengthening the historical significance of the square ?enhancing historical and cultural storytelling ?activating connections with the surrounding area of the square. The total area will be 40,300㎡, 2.1 times larger than originally planned, and greenery will be created on about one-quarter (9,367㎡) of the entire square, expanding the green space to 3.3 times the existing size.
