[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] The German government strongly condemned North Korea's intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launch and hinted at additional measures in response.
On the 24th (local time), the German Foreign Ministry issued an unusually immediate statement condemning the launch, stating, "North Korea's ICBM test launch is an irresponsible provocation that clearly threatens the safety of our regional partners as well as international security."
It added, "It is very concerning that North Korea continues to violate United Nations Security Council resolutions," and urged, "We call on North Korea to fully comply with Security Council resolutions and respond to the repeated dialogue proposals from the United States and South Korea."
The German Foreign Ministry also emphasized North Korea's obligation to bring its weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile development programs to a 'complete, irreversible, and verifiable' end.
The ministry stated that it is closely consulting with G7 and European Union (EU) partners to consider additional responses following North Korea's recent missile test launches.
Earlier, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson met with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida before the G7 summit and condemned North Korea's missile launches, according to the UK Prime Minister's Office.
